A Transparent Solution for Sourcing Recycled Content and Fighting Plastic Pollution

Businesses worldwide want to reduce their environmental impact, cut virgin plastic use, and help address the growing plastic pollution crisis that threatens our planet. Finding diversified sources of recycled content, however, is a challenge. Companies also want to ensure that their recycled raw materials are responsibly sourced.
We’re excited to launch PCX Circular Plastic, a pioneering solution that gives brands the opportunity to fund the collection and recycling of plastic waste through audited plastic credits, and source a steady supply of recycled resin from verified PCX Markets recycling partners.
Companies that purchase PCX Circular Plastic can be sure the post-consumer recycled content they’re buying comes from recycling projects that have been audited according to rigorous, third-party plastic crediting standards. What’s more, it’s all transparent - the details of our credit sales, which are bundled with the recycled feedstock, are recorded in our public registry. The entire process can be tracked, traced and verified.
“By choosing PCX Circular Plastic, businesses become part of a global ecosystem accelerating the transition to a circular economy,” said Sebastian DiGrande, Chief Executive Officer of PCX Markets. “When businesses invest in this solution, they’re not just meeting their recycled content targets. They’re helping to close the funding gap for waste management solutions in markets that need it the most, and creating jobs in communities hardest hit by the plastic pollution crisis.”

Philippine firms cutting plastics show that polluter-pays laws work in Global South: Nanette Medved-Po
"My “aha” moment was when I realized that if a small player in a low-margin business like ours could afford to make the decision to be responsible for plastic post-consumer, or even upstream by reducing as much as I could, what does that say for the big corporates that have better margins and can afford to be 100 percent plastic responsible?"

Microplastics have permeated the region’s food chain, hitting countries like Indonesia and the Philippines the hardest, reports Channel News Asia. Malaysia no longer takes U.S. plastic waste, creating a dilemma for California
Malaysia has banned plastic waste imports from the U.S. starting Tuesday because of America’s failure to abide by the Basel Convention treaty on international waste transfers, in a move that could have significant consequences for California.
Malaysia emerged as a major destination for U.S. waste after China banned American waste imports in 2018. California shipped 864 shipping containers, or more than 10 million pounds of plastic waste, to Malaysia in 2024, according to the Basel Action Network, an advocacy group.

UN's top court says all countries have to act against climate change
The International Court of Justice has ruled that a healthy planet is a basic human right and is part of international customary law. This means every country is legally obliged to protect it - not just countries that have signed climate treaties and other agreements.
“The human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment is therefore inherent in the enjoyment of other human rights,” court President Yuji Iwasawa said during a two-hour hearing.

PCX Solutions PRO Updates
Obliged enterprise partners and stakeholders gathered at our recent PCX Pulse event, where we shared updates from the 2024 EPR compliance year along with an overview of what’s to come for EPR implementation and its policy landscape in 2025.
Athalie Reyes, PCX Solutions’ Senior Manager for EPR and Projects, opened the event with inspiring news: in 2024, we surpassed our target of 40% for both rigids and flexibles, and have made significant progress in meeting EPR requirements. Collectively we have recovered and diverted 41.85% of our aggregated Rigids footprint and 57.26% of our aggregated Flexibles footprint.
While 2024 was a strong year for our PRO members, we urged attendees to prepare for 2025’s target of 50%. “We have to start looking at reducing our footprint through upstream and midstream strategies so that we are not only dealing with waste management but also turning off the tap,” Athalie emphasized.
PCX is committed to improving its PRO support services to ensure that we have our individual members’ best interests at heart.
