A Year of Progress: 2024 Real Impact Report

2024 was a year of incredible milestones in our fight against plastic pollution and we’re just getting started. The challenge remains vast, and as long as plastic waste continues to threaten our planet, we will keep expanding—helping businesses take responsibility for their plastic footprint and driving systemic change.
A major highlight includes our shared impact; as of the end of December 2024, we had diverted 119 million kilograms of plastic from nature. We also grew from six to twelve markets, launching nine new collection, recycling, and upcycling projects in Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Australia. To further scale our impact, PCX Markets introduced the Plastic Cleanup Partner Program, creating new ways for businesses to deliver a significant, measurable impact.
We also achieved B Corp certification, reinforcing our commitment to high social and environmental standards, and participated in global discussions on the Plastics Treaty, advocating for both strong regulations and market-based solutions.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our sustainability partners, project partners, and supporters who have chosen to act boldly in addressing the plastic waste crisis. Thank you for being part of this journey. The problem we’re tackling is massive, but so is our determination. Let’s keep going.

Human brain samples contain an entire spoon's worth of nanoplastics
Recent studies reveal alarming levels of microplastics in human brains—equivalent in weight to about seven grams, similar to that of a plastic spoon. This raises serious concerns about health impacts, especially with higher levels found in dementia patients.
“Compared to autopsy brain samples from 2016, that’s about 50% higher. That would mean that our brains today are 99.5% brain and the rest is plastic.”

PCX at HIC2025: How Hospitality Leaders Can Lead the Fight Against Plastic Pollution

“Plastic pollution is not just an environmental issue. It’s not just a health issue. In the hospitality industry, it will also be a business issue.”
PCX Markets Commercial Director Rudi Ramin took the stage in Jakarta on February 12-13 at the 8th Hospitality Indonesia Conference to talk about how the industry has an opportunity to take the lead on the plastic pollution crisis. By working with partners and guests to reduce, reuse, recycle, and fund cleanup, hospitality companies can drive much-needed financing into Indonesia's collection and recycling infrastructure. In doing so, they can accelerate the transition to a circular economy while protecting the places tourists love!
Unlocking Financing for Plastic Waste Solutions in Indonesia

PCX Markets participated in the "Innovative Financing for Plastic Waste Management" workshop on February 24, 2025, in Jakarta, organized by the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, Indonesia NPAP, and SecondMuse. The event addressed Indonesia’s pressing waste management challenges.
Faisal Yusuf, PCX Markets’ Sustainability Lead for Indonesia, shared insights on plastic credits, highlighting case studies from the Philippines and their potential to bridge financing gaps.
The workshop also introduced the Plastic Recovery Catalyst Program, supported by PCX Markets and SecondMuse, which combines technical assistance, zero-interest loans, and plastic credits to strengthen recycling infrastructure and support SMEs.
With $18 billion needed to reduce marine plastic leakage by 70% by 2025, innovative financing is key. PCX Markets remains committed to driving impact and advancing a circular economy.
