Beko Philippines hits 100% plastic waste recovery in 2024 — turning trash into greener future

Plastic pollution has long been one of the planet’s most stubborn problems. From shopping bags to product packaging, the choices we make every day impact the health of our environment. But in 2024, one home appliance brand in the Philippines proved that convenience and sustainability can go hand in hand.

Beko Philippines, the local arm of Europe’s No. 1 Large Home Appliance brand, isn’t just focused on making homes more comfortable — it’s committed to making the planet healthier too. Through its partnership with PCX Markets, a global plastic responsibility platform, Beko has achieved a remarkable feat: 100% recovery and diversion of its plastic footprint for the entire year, going above and beyond the country’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) law.

That’s over 39,000 kilograms of plastic waste — the equivalent of 13 million tiny sachets — kept out of nature.

Plastic waste with a purpose
Since teaming up with PCX Markets in 2023, Beko has been backing community-driven projects that not only fight pollution but also empower Filipinos.

Top Lun Project – Giving Plastics a Second Life
33,000 kg of rigid HDPE plastics (think bottle caps) collected from junk shops and informal waste pickers were transformed into flakes and sold to manufacturers for reuse.

Holcim-Geocycle Project – Fueling Up Energy
By working with LGUs and waste aggregators, post-consumer plastics were sent to Holcim cement plants to be used as an alternative to fossil fuels. This cut down reliance on imported energy sources while diverting 4,000 kg of flexible plastics from landfills.

Aling Tindera Project – Empowering Women, Building Communities
Through this waste-to-cash program, women micro-entrepreneurs collected flexible plastics from their neighborhoods, which were then sold for co-processing into alternative fuel. Beyond its environmental impact, the initiative boosted incomes by 37% compared to last year, with each participant earning around ₱7,500 more for their families.

Sustainability as a Lifestyle
“At Beko, sustainability is at the core of everything we do,” said Beko Philippines Country Director Alper Yildirim. “We’re proud that our work with PCX Markets has turned plastic waste into valuable opportunities for the planet and for communities. We hope this inspires more organizations to step up their sustainability efforts.”

With every appliance it makes and every partnership it fosters, Beko is proving that small, consistent actions can create massive change — for both the environment and the people who call it home.
