How Plastic Credits Help Solve the Plastic Crisis

Today, more and more items we purchase include plastic as a primary material. While plastic is affordable, durable, and convenient - companies have never really considered what to do with plastic after using it, or the serious consequences it has on biodiversity, carbon emissions, and human health. Since the 1950s the world's plastic consumption has more than doubled, and it's choking up the planet faster than we can get rid of it. In addition to the urgent need for plastic alternatives and decreased plastic production, verified plastic cleanup credits serve as a key solution.

By embracing verified plastic cleanup credits, companies and individuals can make tangible contributions towards mitigating plastic pollution while fostering a more sustainable future. Through incentivizing the collection and recycling of plastic waste, verified plastic credits ensure proactive environmental stewardship while simultaneously curbing the proliferation of plastic in our ecosystems.

“There is no silver bullet that solves the plastic pollution crisis, particularly as the use cases and applications for plastic continue to grow faster than the alternatives,” says PCX founder and chairperson Nanette Medved-Po. “Plastic credits constitute a powerful, immediately available mechanism to inject capital into the plastic waste market, and should therefore be part of the solution mix delivering immediate and tangible environmental and socio-economic impact.”

With no time to waste to address the plastic pollution crisis, PCX works with companies including PepsiCo, Mondelez, Starbucks, and Colgate-Palmolive by helping them curb their plastic waste up and down supply chains.
