PCX Markets sees sharp rise in demand and impact from recycling, upcycling projects

Demand for recycling and upcycling credits on PCX Markets shot up by 1,500% last year, which helped recover and divert 9,000,000 kg of plastic waste from nature.

One project on our marketplace, based in Davao, recycles PET bottles into flakes that can be used again in various products.  Rising demand for credits has helped reduce the volatility brought on by fluctuations in demand for flakes, giving them the confidence to invest in more capacity for 2024 and beyond.

Plastic waste to triple by 2060- packaging as the biggest contributor

The global plastic waste crisis is projected to escalate dramatically by 2060, with the annual volume of waste tripling to 1,014 million metric tons— equivalent to more than 100,000 Eiffel Towers.

Packaging accounts for almost 40 percent of the total weight of plastic waste generated worldwide.

The OECD predicts that with coordinated global action and strong policies, we could reduce plastic waste by a third, helping our planet and the environment.

Perfetti Van Melle celebrates year two of community cleanup

Perfetti Van Melle Philippines is proud to celebrate its second year of community cleanup in partnership with PCX and HOPE: Business for Good. The team achieved a record-breaking collection of 540kg of waste at Las Piñas- Paranaque Wetland Park. The collected plastic waste was donated to Aling Grace from the Aling Tindera Program, providing her with additional income.

AmCham Philippines discusses UN Treaty to End Plastic Pollution

We were honored to be part of The American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines event tackling the "United Nations Treaty to End Plastic Pollution."

PCX Commercial Director Rudi Ramin explained the concept of plastic credits as a financing mechanism that enables companies to take responsibility for waste recovery and diversion. "This approach not only promotes corporate accountability but also supports the development of essential infrastructure to manage plastic pollution effectively," Rudi shared.
