Welcome To Our Newsletter!

This monthly newsletter brings you quick insights into PCX's mission of accelerating the transition to a circular economy and building a future where no plastic ends up in nature.

2024 will be a pivotal year in the world’s journey towards plastic responsibility.  There are now over 30 markets, worldwide, that are enacting or strengthening Extended Producer Responsibility laws to reduce the rate of new plastic waste flowing into their environment - and to encourage companies to clean up the equivalent of their plastic footprint as part of efforts to reduce legacy waste. At the global level, this is the year the UNEP’s International Negotiating Committee will conclude discussions on a plastic pollution treaty, which is scheduled to be enacted early next year. Delegates from PCX Solutions, our non profit organization, will be attending both the INC-4 meetings in Canada in April and the INC-5 meetings in Korea in November, and will update our community throughout the process.

As communities, companies and governments gain momentum in their push for plastic responsibility, we’re here to help. We’re excited to share that this year, PCX will be expanding to six new markets, and onboarding new project partners all over the world to our marketplace.

Thank you for being part of PCX's community!

Best,

PCX's Partnership Highlights

Global Tailwind: World Bank Plastic Credit Bond

In January The World Bank, together with Citi, issued a $100M plastic credit bond - the first of its kind - to fund projects in Ghana and Indonesia. As an early pioneer in this space we are incredibly excited by this move, which provides strong validation of the positive impact of fully transparent and verifiable plastic cleanup credits. We believe this will further accelerate both awareness and adoption in markets across the world.

Policy Progress

In 2023, we had the privilege of attending both COP28 in Dubai and the UNEP INC-3 in Nairobi, where our founder, Nanette Medved-Po, together with PCX Markets CEO Sebastian DiGrande and PCX Solutions Managing Director Stefanie Beitien, share perspectives from emerging markets, which are bearing the brunt of the plastic waste crisis. PCX also released a position paper, illustrating how plastic credits are a critical part of the solution to the plastic pollution crisis - helping solve environmental and social issues, delivering immediate and tangible impact, and incentivizing capital investment in long-term circular solutions. We invite you to read our full PCX Position Paper.
